Is it safe to clean ears with earbuds?

my friend said it is...so how am i meant to clean them?

How can people here say that ear buds damage your ears? Do you know how much dirt is collected inside your ears? It is necessary to clean them. Wax is built up and eventually will block your hearing. I use a cotton bud to clean my ears and if you do it carefully and gently, the chances of damaging your hearing is unlikely. I have been cleaning my ears with cotton buds since the age of 11.

You can dip the cotton bud in baby oil and then slowly rotate it inside your ear. You'll see how much dirt comes out!

You can clean your outer ear(the part that you can see) with ear buds. Don't stick them inside your ear, you can damage your ear and shove any wax, further in, making it more difficult to hear. Wax actually clears by itself and there is no need to shove anything inside your ears. If you are having difficulty hearing you should go to the nurse and ask if she can take a look. She might suggest getting your ears syringed, which would clear any excess wax that may have built up. Sometimes, this can happen if you have had a number of ear infections over the years.

You should get some hydrogen Peroxide and a rubber syringe that they use for ear wax removal, run some bath water as warm as you can stand it , climb into the bathtub , once you are in water tilt your head to one side and pour some of the hydrogen peroxide into an ear canal, let it churn for awhile, that means that is working on wax removal, after it has churned for awhile lay down in water on that side, fill rubber syringe with water from tub and then irrigate the wax from the ear, do it several times, then proceed to other side and do the same thing to it, I use this method all the time with great success.

don't go into the ear canal with ANYTHING - only the outer (visible) part should be cleaned. Accidental popping of the ear drum is VERY common when any object enters the ear canal. That is horribly painful. If you think your ears are all gunked up inside, your doc can clean them out.

PS - Yes, they can cause damage - ask ANY doctor. Unless you have a very delicate hand and are VERY good at knowing how far you are going, you can do much damage. I know two people who have damaged their ear drums that way - and my daughters FORMER pediatrian even "accidently" broke an eardrum while digging in a childs ear. A professional should be consulted for inner ear cleaning. Not "well, I hope this isn't in there too far........". Just my thoughts and experience.

apparently its not that safe as you can damage your ears and the fibres on the cotton can cause damage aswell but i still use them lol. My friend uses a hair clip :S lol.
