Why do some of those winter stocking caps have that really long floppy thing?

does it actually serve a purpose? some of them are like 3 feet long.



I just bought one this year. The long floppy things help keep the hat on but don't need to be 2 feet long.


I live in Northern Maine and work officiating dog sled races....... you want a hat that stays on and stays warm...... looks are not important!




its so dorks can look even more dorkier than they already are




for people with pointy heads, duhhh.
